Salma Hayek was a big sensation in Hollywood when she was offered the role in Robert Rodriguez's Desperado. Her Oscar-nominated performance in Frida took her to the top of Hollywood. Salma Hayek Jimenez is the daughter of Spanish parents and a Lebanese father. Her birth date was September 2nd, 1966, in Coatzacoalcos Veracruz Mexico. Hayek was raised in a Catholic wealthy, well-off family. At the age of 12, Hayek went to a convent-like school in Louisiana. Then she moved along with an aunt, in Houston, Texas. After a brief stint at the University of Mexico City, she dropped out of school to pursue a profession as an actor, and eventually became a telenovela star in her homeland of Mexico. The first film of the year was released in 1990, Hayek moved away from California and moved to Los Angeles to work on her English. Her roles were limited prior to landing a lead role in the film Desperado in which she starred alongside Antonio Banderas.
